Firefighting Foam May Be Responsible For Many Types Of Digestive System Disorders

One person allegedly developed ulcerative colitis from drinking ordinary household tap water contaminated with PFAS forever chemicals

Tuesday, September 19, 2023 - AFFF firefighting foam lawsuits to date have centered around those who have developed life-threatening cancer from drinking ordinary tap water. Water supplies on or near military bases and public airports are suspected of being polluted from AFFF firefighting foam runoff. Many types of kidney disease and digestive issues may emanate from polluted water, including hypercholesterolemia, thyroid disease, testicular cancer, and kidney cancer, as well as pregnancy-induced hypertension and preeclampsia One of the more problematic illnesses thought to be linked to consuming PFAS forever chemicals in drinking water, is ulcerative colitis. Ulcerative colitis is a chronic and life-altering affliction, impacting millions across the globe. Although its precise origins remain unclear research suggests a potential connection between ulcerative colitis and PFAS exposure via tainted drinking water.

PFAS forever chemicals are notorious for the strong molecular bonds that make them so effective in fighting jet fuel and petroleum fires and may trigger chronic inflammatory responses analogous to those observed in ulcerative colitis. Recognizing and addressing this potential connection is critical to those who work as a military or civilian firefighter. Forever chemicals have gained notoriety for their pervasive application and resilience in the environment. PFAS chemicals are used in various industries and commonplace items, such as non-stick cookware, food packaging, and firefighting foam. Yet, the most disconcerting facet of PFAS contamination is its infiltration of drinking water sources proximate to military installations, airports, and industrial facilities, where PFAS-containing firefighting foam was extensively deployed. Recent studies have indicated that prolonged PFAS exposure via tainted drinking water could trigger ulcerative colitis development.

One person allegedly developed ulcerative colitis from drinking ordinary household tap water contaminated with PFAS forever chemicals and has filed a lawsuit. According to AboutLawsuits.com, the plaintiff developed ulcerative colitis from regularly drinking tap water that was tested and found to have unacceptable levels or PFAS forever chemicals. "According to the lawsuit, Smith is a resident of Willingboro, New Jersey, which is a suburb of Philadelphia, in the South Jersey region, and she regularly purchased and consumed water from public and private suppliers in the state for decades. However, those waters were heavily contaminated with PFAS chemicals from firefighter foam used by military and civilian emergency response personnel. Smith indicates that the defendants knew or should have known about the risks of water contamination linked to AFFF products. However, they failed to warn users of the firefighting foam, or consumers who lived near to where the products were heavily used, about the risks of ulcerative colitis and other injuries," AL wrote.mGovernment Technology (go tech.com) recently wrote an article titled: " For Military, PFAS in Firefighting Foam Pose New Threat," that PFAS chemicals in military grade firefighting foam pose a high level of risk to human health to those who use the chemical regularly to perform their job and also to the drinking water servicing surrounding communities which may have become polluted by its runoff. "Now that they know they are at risk from exposure to PFAS, military firefighters at the more than 700 active and former military installations that have been polluted by AFFF are wondering what to do now," GT reports.">
